Who Are We

Welcome to Wine Story from James.

My life has always been split between England and Italy, between the country of beer and the land of wine. Son of an Italian father and English mother and I have always tried to take the best of both cultures both in my working and personal life.

I was born and raised in Nottingham (UK) until my 15th birthday and then I moved to Castagnole delle Lanze (AT) a small village between Langhe & Monferrato. It is hear in the province of Asti that I started to learn about the world of wine, I remember my first wine tasting at La Spinetta, received as compensation after acting as a translator for a group of visitors.

My family has always run bars and restaurants, I was raised watching my father and grandfather working both in the dining room and the kitchen.

I started my work experience at 16 years old working in a bar for my father in Italy. After returning back to England I continued working with my family, opening a restaurant on the outskirts of Nottingham.

Also along with my father we took over the catering of a prestigious Golf Club. Longing to undertake a career in the hotel industry I worked in a hotel in the outskirts of Nottingham firstly as an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager and then in a 140 bedroom hotel with 3 golf courses and 7 conference rooms as a Bar Manager. In 2004 I decide to return to Italy to work in the prestigious Relais & Chateaux Relais San Maurizio hotel in Santo Stefano Belbo (CN), a 5 star luxury hotel as Bar Manager where I remain for over 10 years, with the last 4 years as Food & Beverage Manager. Thanks to Relais San Maurizio I enhanced and increased my knowledge and passion for Piemonte Wines.

Today, thanks to my past experiences I created Wine Story, a space which is made to measure for those who wish to pass time in company drinking good wine.
